How To Increase Compressive Strength Of Carton Box

Methods to increase the strength of corrugated boxes:

 

I. Reasonably design the carton length, width, height size and proportion

 

A large amount of data analysis shows that the compressive strength of the carton has a certain relationship with the carton circumference, the carton height, and the carton aspect ratio. The longer the carton circumference is, the higher the compressive strength is. There is a certain conversion relationship between the carton circumference and the compressive strength.

 

Generally speaking, the carton length to width ratio is in the range of 1 to 1.8, and the effect of the length to width ratio on the compressive strength is only ± 5%. When the aspect ratio RL = 1.2 ~ 1.5, the carton has the highest compression resistance. When the carton length to width ratio is 2: 1, the compressive strength decreases by about 20%, so the length to width ratio of the carton should not exceed 2 when designing, otherwise it will cause cost waste.

 

2. Reasonably formulating stacking time and stacking method

 

①The compressive strength of the carton decreases with the increase of stacking time. This phenomenon is called fatigue phenomenon. The test shows that under the action of long-term load, as long as one month has passed, the compressive strength of the carton will drop by 30%, and after one year, its compressive strength will be only 50% of the initial value. When designing the material of the carton, the safety factor should be improved for the carton with a long circulation time.

 

② The carton stacking method also has a certain effect on the compressive strength of the carton. The pressure in the vertical pit direction of the carton is much greater than the horizontal pit direction. When stacking the carton, the pressure in the vertical pit direction should be maintained. From the test results, the pressure on the box corner of the carton is the highest, and the farther from the box angle, the lower the bearing pressure. Therefore, when stacking cartons, try to keep the box corners aligned with the box corners.

 

3. The reasonable use of carton openings

 

Some carton boxes have ventilation holes, hand holes, etc. These openings will also have a significant impact on the compression resistance of the carton box. The test shows that the larger the opening, the greater the loss of compressive strength; the closer the opening is to the top and bottom, and the farther from the center to the left and right, the lower the compressive strength.

 

In general, one hand pull on each side reduces the compressive strength of the carton by 20%, and one hand pull on each side and the front reduces the compressive strength of the carton by 30%. Some factories paste a layer of reinforcement cards on the openings on the inner wall of the carton. This can not only reduce the impact of the openings on the compressive strength, but also prevent damage to the handle when the handle is stressed.
